Avoid these 6 big distractions from your home internet marketing business and still keep your friends……

Distraction #1: Friends – People tend to think that just because you work from home that you are available 24/7. You don’t want to put them off or offend them by never being available, but you need to set the boundaries on visiting times as well.

Your friends will take direction from you so decided which days and times you are ‘at work’ on your home internet marketing business and which times you will make yourself available for friends.

Of course you will always get the friends who ‘just drop by’ but if you handle these ones gently but firmly they will understand. I had one friend who just ‘didn’t get’ the fact that I had a home internet marketing business and thought that all I was doing was mucking around on Facebook. One day she rocked up while I was in the middle of a really great webinar.

The look on her face when I apologized and explained that I was actually at an international conference and that I’d call her later was priceless! But at least she now phones before turning up – no harm done.

Distraction #2: Family – Having a home internet marketing business is when you have children is really difficult, especially if you don’t have any form of help. If it is just you and you have young children then I find that the small hours of the night and morning are the quietest and most productive.

As the kids get to school age they understand so much more, so you can just lock yourself in the computer ‘nook’ and explain that ‘Mommy is at work now’ and they will largely leave you alone. By this time you have also learned to switch off from all but the most serious of noises!

Our 3 year old twins are always asking why Mommy and Daddy are working. We just explain that it is so that we can take them to Disneyland one day.

Again, make sure that you leave enough time in the day to spend with your kids, partner, parents or anyone else that needs to have a relationship with you – There is no point having a home internet marketing business if you are never ‘at home mentally’ – and of course it will make that trip to Disneyland so much more fun if you have actually bonded with your kids first!

Distraction #3: Social networks, forums, You Tube – How many hours a day do you usually spend on Facebook and Twitter?

When Facebook first came out I got hooked pretty quickly and then realized how easily the hours could fly by on it. Most other sites are the same. Now I spend a good deal of time on them as part of my ‘work’ and building friendships with other home internet marketing business partners. But it is still a struggle to stay ‘on topic’ and not to do a quick You Tube search to see what Miley Cyrus’, Dane Rumble or Adam Lambert’s latest videos look like. (I know sad but true).

Forums are the same – I now have a limit on the amount of time that I can spend on my favorite forums, usually 30 mins in the morn and maybe a quick check in during a break in the afternoon. Any longer than that and I am toast – all motivation to do anything other than ‘yak’ is gone.

Distraction #4: Emails – Check them once or twice a day and limit the time that you spend on them. When you have a home internet marketing business you will find that your in-box becomes really cluttered really quickly with offers from all sorts of gurus. Most of these will have video attachments, some of these will even be interesting or educational – but most will be garbage. You will learn which guys and girls have the best information and which ones send mail that you delete straight away.

Distraction #5: Research – It used to take me a day to write a 500 word article because I used to research it tirelessly. Every little word, statement or fact had to be perfect. Then I had to spend three days without the internet – gasp!

Turns out that I knew far more than I thought because I managed to write 30 articles in those 3 days that were actually far better and just as factual as the ‘researched’ ones I’d done before!

Distraction #6: Yourself – Having a home internet marketing business means that the buck really does stop with you.

If you need motivation then keep in mind that if you don’t work, you don’t get paid. Every coffee break, every social phone call, every ten minutes that you put off getting started is another 10 minutes that you will need to add to the time that it is going to take you to ‘make it’ as an internet marketer.

For coffee addicts find a good thermal mug and it will become your best friend :o )

At the other end of the spectrum, make sure that you look after yourself, make time to eat properly and allow time for exercise. With a home internet marketing business you will spend most of your day sitting down staring at a computer screen, so make sure that you get up, stretch and move around at least every 30 minutes and make a day a week where you focus on something that does not involve a computer.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to make more money with my blogs for a while now. I’ve tried Adsense, and it just sucks. I’ve tried a few affiliate networks, but haven’t had much luck. I was thinking about trying the clickbank wealth formula that I was reading about on the warriors forum. Here is a link to it. I’ve read some good reviews about it. Have you tried it? Does it really work? Any idea if it is suitable for a newb or not?

      Hey Garry,
One of the biggest things to remember is to never buy into anything unless you know exactly how it is going to work. Have a hunt around Warrior Forum or Google and see what others are saying. Make sure that there is a decent (100%) money back guarantee as well if you find that you don’t like what you get.
But then, seeing as that was an affiliate link, you must already know enough about the product to know whether it is worthwhile or not :o )
      Thanks for stopping by anyway.
