Email Marketing Tips

Hands up how many of you are aware of email marketing?

How many of you are ready for some email marketing tips?

Not many…..I know the feeling.

Between setting up your site or blog, getting content written and then trying to drive traffic to your site you are probably knackered and brain dead. Starting a list involves more hours of learning, days of writing and more punch the computer moments that none of us need right now.

But if you are serious about your marketing then this is a hurdle that you are going to have to face at some point because if you are listening and following the advice of the bigger players they all say that the real money started once they got their list up and running.

If you are still a bit overwhelmed by everything take a breath keep writing and we’ll see you tomorrow, but if you are ready for a few email marketing tips then here we go with a few basic email marketing tips;

Build Your Relationship

Building your relationship with your readers is building trust with them. Talk to your readers like you would to a friend sitting across the coffee table. Friendly, relaxed, caring but be professional at the same time.

Let your reader know that you really do have their welfare at heart above any income that you may be trying to make from them. That way they are more likely to believe you when your say that product C or D will really help them with their problem. Needless to say, don’t try and sell them something that will not help them or that is not relevant to them!

Look For Quality Content – Copy the Masters

Probably most of you will have had some form of regular newsletter delivered to your inbox at some point. Some of these are really great reading, some are just sales pitches and some are worthless junk right?

Look at the ones that you enjoy. Why do you like them? Is it the tone that they use or the information that they give out? Are there subtle sales pitches that you don’t mind because of the great info you are getting?

Look at the ones that you delete immediately.

Why do you do that?

Are they sooo full of the slimey hard sell that you feel like you should grab a bath after reading one? Are they grammatically so bad that you have trouble reading them?

Are they just full of hype?

Honestly, sometimes you think that an overeager puppy has written the email that you have received because it bounces all over the show and just doesn’t stop and I’m really really excited to be bringing you this wonderful product and I wish, really wish that you could be half as happy as me now that I have found this AMAZING thingameboby and …… well, you get my drift!

Keep In Contact

One of the best email marketing tips that I ever read was to keep in contact with your group.

Most email marketing sequences will last about a month to 6 weeks and then you never here from those marketers again. Now that may be OK for some niches, but in others, like make money online, pregnancy and self help you can actually go on for a year or more and get a real relationship going with your readers.

Even if you are just emailing them to say that your site was updated, that you have a new blog post, that there was a problem with your server, that’s why they couldn’t get into your site yesterday or that you made a guest post on another blog, be conversational but professional.

Do Not Treat Your Readers Like Cash Cows

One of the most disappointing email sequences that I was a part of started out really well. I signed on and received the most awesome information for about 8 weeks. By that time the marketer had really made a connection with me as the reader. Then suddenly the emails stopped, so I contacted the lady’s office to see what was going on and the basic reply was that because I hadn’t bought anything I had been unsubscribed.

The thing was, in time I would have bought something. Now I will never ever buy anything from her again.

Watch Your Timing

As a customer how long can you go without hearing from someone that you are professionally interested in? Too long and your reader starts to lose focus, too short and they start to feel pressured…..

Updating your reader one or twice a week in some instances lets them know that you are still around and still care about their mission.

Keep it Simple

I know that there are a huge number of graphics and awesome tools out there to really vamp your site, but for newsletters it is always better to keep it really clean and simple. Many people check their emails on mobile devices and these small screens don’t handle flashy graphics particularly well.
